Reconnect the wiring harness to the tail light lens assembly. If you're removing the taillamps with the bumper off there are 3 nuts and screws that hold the taillight to the rear panel of the car that have to come off from the inside of the trunk. The purchased item may need to be repainted, refinished, or reupholstered for proper color match. I don't need to step on the brake for this to happen, so its one of the taillights that's causing the failure light. I can't figure this out.

What happens there is that there is a stud that's held pretty snuggly by a modled ring in the body assembly. There may be an interior trunk trim panel that you have to take off but in most cases its just a series of thumb screws that hold them in. Maybe the car has been in an accident and a ground wire was broken or not screwed back into place. Are you unable to remove the bulb socket from the lens housing or are you unable to remove the bulb from the socket after you remove the socket from the lens housing. Next locat the tailight you wish to replace or same if you are replacing one of the tailigt bulbs. Are you unable to remove the bulb socket from the lens housing or are you unable to remove the bulb from the socket after you remove the socket from the lens housing. It can also be caused by a bad ground wire, a bad socket, or the bulb failure sensor but it is more likely a problem with a bulb. Funny, someone on this or another forum reported the same issue and his problem also turned out to be a loose trailer light harness connector.
