bbc prototype online catalogue available

April 26 2006

The BBC’s archive catalogue is now available online.

As previously mentioned this is a prototype that has been created using one of the bright new shiny tools of the web-o-sphere – Rails on Ruby.

It provides plenty of ways to connect into it (RSS, RDF, FOAF) with the terms of use allowing non-commercial reuse – enabling those with the skill and passion to create new applications using the archive data.

For a quick overview read Project Director Tom Loosemore’s intro.

bbc archive :: 50 iconic events made available through Creative Archive

December 14 2005

A beta service providing UK residents access to the archives the BBC News has just launched. 50 clips of ‘iconic events’ are available for download as MPEG-1, Quicktime and Windows Media files.

Examples of the events include the Poll Tax riots, 1966 World Cup final and Tiananmen Square.

These are made available under the UK only Creative Archive Licence.

Update: I have corrected my mistake. It is a Creative Archive licence not a Creative Commons licence.
