fox digital to do portable video

October 25 2005

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Foxtel will offer portable digital viewing devices within 18 months.

“Although the Foxtel device will be available only to subscribers to its fledgling digital recording service”

Based on this quote it reasonable to think that the handheld will be a DRM armed player (presumably NDS) onto which you can transfer programmes, you have already recorded, from your Foxtel PVR (Foxtel IQ).

The piece also reports that the Seven network is hoping to offer some of it’s Australian produced programs through non-TV channels, such as the internet, portable media devices and mobile phones.

Aussie iTunes

In other Aussie media developments, Apple’s iTunes Music Store has opened up for the lucky country. If you have a credit card with an Australian address you’ll be able to purchase. It will be interesting to see how fast the Disney video deal propagates out from the US to other territories’ iTunes Stores.
